Rob Shaw – Clarinet

Rob_ShawRob plays sub-principal clarinet in DECO and is married to principal clarinettist, Luan! He graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire with first class honours and many diplomas, including the Conservatoire’s flagship postgraduate performance diploma. Rob has been sub-principal clarinet of Orchestra da Camera for over 20 years and has also played with CBSO, English Symphony Orchestra, Mid Wales Opera, Orchestra of the Swan, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Longborough Festival Opera in addition to many touring West End shows.

Rob has taught clarinet and saxophone for 25 years, holding positions at Rugby School, Birmingham Conservatoire Junior School, Denstone College and Shrewsbury School, where he was Head of Woodwind. He has worked extensively in the field of community music, notably for Live Music Now!, Music in Hospitals and the ‘Lost Chord’ scheme in a range of ensembles, notably as a founder member of the Maskarade Clarinet Quartet.

Rob has been heavily involved with ABRSM for the past 14 years as a national and international examiner of both graded exams and diplomas and as co-deviser of current and recent clarinet syllabi. Recently,

Rob has been appointed to a more senior role within ABRSM as an examiner trainer.
