Sarah Balls – Timpani

Sarah studied percussion at Birmingham Conservatoire and Crane College, New York, gaining B-Mus and Masters degrees.

Since graduating, she maintains a successful performing career playing with the CBSO, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
She is also in demand as a period performance timpanist appearing with orchestras such as the London Mozart Players and Armonico Consort.
Sarah is also passionate about improving children’s access to excellent music making opportunities.
She currently holds the position of Assistant to the Head of Ensembles at the highly regarded Birmingham Music Service, overseeing 70 ensembles with almost 2000 children making music each week.
In a different role, Sarah can be found every summer in muddy fields firing live cannons for the “Battle Symphony” and the “1812 Overture” in the series of Battle Proms concerts!
